1880'S RANCH,

933 Acre Montana Ranch For Sale

The Area And Its History

The 1880's Ranch is located just 3 miles west of Anaconda which was founded in 1880 by Marcus Daly, one of the Copper Kings. As telephone, telegraph and electrical wire was strewn around the country at the end of the 19th century, huge copper mines in the area around Anaconda provided the necessary materials to light up the United States. As a result mines created some of the world's wealthiest men, including Marcus Daly. Daly built his own copper smelter just outside of town which attracted thousands of workers from around the world.

Anaconda is the gateway to the Pintler Primitive Area, Deer Lodge National Forest, Lost Creek State Park, Discovery Basin Ski Area, the Big Hole Battlefield, Georgetown Lake and other lakes and ghost towns west of Anaconda. Close to Anaconda is Fairmont Hot Springs, the Warm Springs Water Fowl Refuge, and the Mount Haggin Wildlife Management Area.

1880's Old West Town

This private town of the Old West offers the ultimate in distinguished guest ranch accommodations, corporate retreats, or even one's own private getaway. Remarkable attention to detail is evident throughout the various buildings in the town. Lodgings at the 1880's Ranch convey the heart of the Old West in the late 19th century, but they include the modern conveniences of the late 20th century.

In this genuine Old West town, one can find a saloon, boarding house, jail, log cabin, teepee, sheep wagon, dugout, sod house, Indian bark lodge and cord-wood building. The town also features a bathhouse with a jacuzzi, a mercantile, Kee's laundry and a livery. A church sits above and overlooks the rest of the town. The saloon contains a bar where guests can enjoy a refreshing beverage, plus the dining area and a commercial kitchen where hearty ranch grub is prepared.

The Ranch specializes in trail rides taking in the breathtaking scenic splendor and viewing many species of wildlife such as mountain sheep, deer, elk, bear, coyote and other predatory animals. Guests also have the opportunity of participating in other ranching activities such as moving cattle in the mountains or an occasional branding.

Wildlife

It is not uncommon for the owner of this ranch to have the haunting sound of bull elk bugling in the autumn air or the echoing of bighorn rams fighting for the herd dominance. Both elk and bighorns are commonly seen on and around the ranch. One of the largest herds of bighorn sheep in the southern 48 states is living on the ridges at the north end of the ranch. There are also a number of mountain goats on these ridges, but to a lesser extent than the sheep. Both mule and whitetail deer, moose, black bear, mountain lion and other predatory animals can also be found on and around the ranch

Recreation

Within minutes of the property are the following attractions:

1. Anaconda - one of Montana's most historic towns

2. Discovery Basin Ski Area

3. Georgetown Lake

4. Fairmont Hot Springs

Fishing

Famous "blue ribbon" trout streams such as the Big Hole, Clark Fork and Rock Creek are all less than an hour's drive from the ranch. Stream fishing is found in all of the mountain valleys that surround the area.

Silver Lake and Georgetown Lake, both just 25 miles from the ranch, are both highly rated for their fishing, boating and scenic beauty.

Other Recreation

There are five golf courses within 25 minutes of the property. The Jack Nicklaus designed "Old Works Golf Course" is rated No. 1 among all courses in Montana. This is one of the finest public courses in the country and is located only 3 miles from the 1880's Ranch.

Most of the reasons why Montana's official nickname is the "Treasure State" are located in southwestern Montana. For those who enjoy exploring and rock hounding, there are limitless possibilities, as nearby mountains are a rock-hounders paradise. They feature sapphires, garnets, fossils and gold. Numerous historic mining districts, ghost towns and museums depict a part of the colorful past of the area.

Hiking, mountain biking, camping, horseback riding, nature watching and photography are also possibilities in this outstanding recreational area.

Area Transportation

Anaconda is located approximately 7 miles off Interstate 90. The Ranch is located 3 miles west of Anaconda on North Cable Road just off of Highway 1. The roads are paved and very accessible. Butte, just 30 minutes from the Ranch provides good commercial air transportation.
